TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL TURNS 35.

It’s a milestone year for the Toronto International Film Festival, with the 2010 instalment marking three major achievements. First, the 35th anniversary of the festival itself, which has served as a platform for launching celebrated fi lms like The Big Chill, Crash and Slumdog Millionaire. Next, the 20th anniversary of the TIFF Cinematheque (formerly Cinematheque Ontario), one of the premiere curated art-house cinemas in Canada. Last, and most notably, 2010 is the year the festival moves into its shiny new headquarters at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on the corner of King and John Streets in Toronto.

The doors of the Lightbox are expected to open to the public on September 12th, smack in the middle of this year’s fest, and the building’s hyper-modern architecture and state-of-the-art screening facilities are set to change the face of Canada’s biggest fi lm festival. But of course, the core of any great fi lm fest is, well, the fi lms themselves. And TIFF 2010 is no exception.
